Where is it?
So, I was working away on publishing my artbook "Between Heaven and Earth" through Amazon KDP and everything looked like it was on schedule to be available before Christmas of 2018, but then I got my print proofs from Amazon and that all fell through. The art was muddy, dark, and kind of washed out. Don't get me wrong, it still was inspiring and kind of awesome, but it lost a lot in translation.
After 3 weeks of working with them to figure out why this had happened, I learned the hard truth. My images were created in RGB color (Red, Green, Blue). Most printers print in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (or black)). It is the process on the printer's end of transferring RGB to CMYK where stuff gets lost in translation. Colors aren't interpreted correctly and stuff gets washed out - that is what I was told anyways, and it makes sense. Unfortunately, the new version of Microsoft Publisher (where I did all my final art pieces) discontinued their nifty RGB to CMYK converter, which would have solved all of this. I was super irritated to discover this!
Apparently Microsoft wants to force printer companies to give up the CMYK and switch over to RGB (that's what I read about this lousy decision) - only the printers aren't budging, so all of us are left high and dry without a viable publishing platform anymore. Supper disappointing! So, I will have to find a free or cheap publisher platform that can do this conversion and start all over. I hope to get on this project again soon - I just lost a lot of steam after learning this and realizing there was no way I was going to get it done in time for Christmas.
Thanks for all your support on Facebook and encouragement! It keeps me going! "Engage!"
