SAID THE SPIDERS TO THE WASP (short sketch)

Updated: Oct 23, 2019

By Nathan Warner

A Prometheus starship makes a dangerous discovery during the Dominion War

The U.S.S. Repulse, a Prometheus class starship, stands off from its discovery of a web of Cardassian space stations standing guard over an unknown Dominion base nearby, masked from long-range sensors in the dust and gasses of a stellar nebula. Captain Whitman weighed his options, running his fingers through his graying hair. Without backup, the wisest course of action was probably to keep his distance.

An old nursery rhyme came to his memory from the depths of his childhood:

"'Will you walk into my parlor,' said the Spider to the Fly," he muttered, reflecting on the inviting stance of the deadly stations, silhouetted against the illumination of the stars. Only, the Prometheus was no "fly" - if anything it was a wasp. And wasps had been known to kill spiders.
